The Many Smiles of Lincoln

When these were photos were taken Lincoln was 8 1/2 months old and still inch worming his way around the floor. As of today he is 10 months old and much busier. He is a crawling machine, pulling up on anything he can get his chubby fists on. He is still as happy as ever though. I wonder if it is hard to be the best baby in the world. It seems to come naturally to him. The only time I ever see him upset is if we take something away from him (mostly choking hazards he finds on the floor) but he gets over it quickly. Lincoln also thinks he can climb the stairs but that makes mommy nervous, especially since he hasn't mastered the three point turn yet to go back down. I just love my chubby lubby!

Recruited

Recruited. Happily So.  Picker of the yellow and purple beans and about 30 pounds of summer squash. You know it is a lot of gourd if you have to remember to lift the giant silver bowl with your legs and not your back.

Gardening is a love I share in common with my mother-in-law Priscilla. It is an exciting thing to see the plant life cycle go from seed all the way to these massive fruiting vines. Cultivating life cannot be over rated; neither can any project you start with God as your partner. I love how she is always sharing her crop with not just the family and ward but also the town. (Mostly joyful recipients of these vegetables, sometimes not so grateful.) I plan to bronze these yellow boots of hers one day. They are an apt symbol for all the hard-working, sharing, feeding, giving, Christian qualities she posses. What do you think Mom? Put me in the will for one pair of yellow rubber boots would you

Magic Aunt

I'm always wishing for family that lived closer by.  Especially family that likes to hold and squish the babies. Where do I get the Fort Collins version of this? Sign me up.

You look good with a chubby little bond child in your arms Jen. Maybe we'll get the Whitcomb version here in a couple of years.

Lincoln was loving life here at Kimball's, where he got to sample a little bit of every body's cup, including Aunt Rachel's.

An uncle close by wouldn't be too shabby either.

Sisters for the day

Looking a little rough there Ruthie. We had just arrived after 15 hours of traveling but she still had a smile on her face. Especially after meeting Bryer for the first time
These two cousins have only met once but they were INSTANT best friends. It only took about 15 seconds from walking in the door at mimi and grampy's house until they were holding hands. I didn't see much of Ruth for the remaining 48 hours were were in Northborough. Neither one has a biological sister (I'm still holding out hope for Ruthie) but they have lots of wonderful brothers. As someone once told me, a rose among thorns so to speak. I hope they get in some more cousin time soon.

Corn Day

Free is a good price. Actually it is a great price, and that is exactly how much we paid for this 200+ pounds of fresh corn. A big thank you to the church welfare farm that has planted corn for the members to pick just over 45 minutes away in Greely. Our family made a little drive and came home with enough corn and bagged black beans to last us for the next year. We picked the corn Thursday evening and by the time we got home it was too late to even unload it. Bright and early Friday morning the kids and I went to unload our bounty and when I opened the van door it was like a corn sauna. Corn on the cob sweats, and the inside of my car had a warm, sweet corn vapor condensing on all the windows. After the unloading, the kids got to shucking and their youthful zeal carried them through the first hour or so. After that it was a combination of bribing and prodding but I didn't shuck a single corn cob.  I was too busy in the kitchen blanching, cutting, and bagging what ended up being over 5 gallons of corn kernels for the freezer. Throughout the day the boys also made corn deliveries to all our neighbors on the cul-de-sac and we still had left overs to bring to a party and share with those I visit teach. It was good to share, an easy way to build better relationships. Corn day was l--o--n--g but very satisfying.
